Hearts Pins and Needles Case

We’re going to be using the pretty GO! Hearts die to make this cute needle case… actually, I’m calling it a Pins and Needles case, because I always like to include pins in my needle cases… just in case!

Materials:

here is what you need to make your own Hearts Pins and Needles Case:

  1. AccuQuilt GO! Big or GO! Fabric Cutter
  2. AQ55029 GO! Heart – 2”, 3”, 4”
  3. AQ55000 GO! Square – 6½” (6″ Finished)
  4. One Fat Quarter of Cotton Fabric
  5. (1) 18cm x 18cm (7” x 7”) Square of Batting
  6. (1) 8cm x 13cm (3” x 5”) Rectangle of Fabric backed with iron on fusible web
  7. (1)18cm x 25cm (7” x 10”) Rectangle of Felt
  8. (2) 20cm (8”) Pieces of Ribbon
  9. (1) 7cm x 15cm (3” x 6”) tearaway
  10. Sewing Machine
  11. Matching Sewing Thread

Cutting Instructions:

  1. From the fat quarter:
    • Using AQ55000 GO! Square – 6½” (6″ Finished)
      • Cut (2) Squares
  2. From the scrap of batting:
    • Using AQ55000 GO! Square – 6½” (6″ Finished)
      • Cut (1) Squares
  3. From the felt:
    • Using AQ55029 GO! Heart – 2”, 3”, 4”
      • Cut (1) 4” Heart
      • Cut (1) 3” Heart
  4. From the fabric scraps – iron on the fusible web and then
    • Cut (2) 2” Hearts

Some More Cutting:

  1. Lay the two 6 ½” squares of fabric, and the one 6½” square of batting on top of each other. Trim them down to a 6” x 5½” rectangle.

Sewing Instructions:

All seams are ¼” unless otherwise specified.

Sew the Pins and Needles Case

  1. Fold one of the fabric rectangles in half lengthwise, wrong sides together, as illustrated below. Position the two 2” applique hearts on the fold, slightly off centre towards the fold to account for the seam allowance.

Press hearts in place. Place tearaway on wrong side of fabric, underneath hearts, making sure the area behind the hearts is covered completely. Applique as desired.

  1. Place the appliqued front of the case on top of the batting. Find the centres of the sides and baste the ribbons with an 1/8” seam allowance to hold them in place. See illustration below.

  1. Place the second rectangle of fabric on top of first, right sides together. Ensure the ends of the ribbons are tucked into the centre of the case and away from the sides. Pin all layers together and stitch, leaving an opening of 3” at the bottom of rectangle.

  1. Trim the corners and then gently turn the case right side out. Press well. Top stitch all around.
  2. Centre the two felt hearts on the inside of the case. Stitch down the middle through all layers. A different top and bottom colour thread can be used if desired:
