  1. Remove backing and place 8 birds along the length of the main fabric, Applique Strips, leaving some extra space at end. (The strip is too long, and we will cut a small amount of fabric off the end when we have completed sewing. This allows for fabric shrinkage from the applique.) Place the birds evenly within the Applique Strip leaving room for seam allowance. Iron birds in place.
  2. Applique birds in place with one of the following methods:
    • Raw Edge Applique – Place tearaway on the wrong side of the fabric. Hoop the design in a hoop. Set machine to free motion and sew around the edge of each design three times.
    • EmbroideryUse the free GO! Birds embroidery designs, following your embroidery machine instructions.
    • Applique – Place tearaway to the wrong side of fabric. Using embroidery thread in top thread and bobbin fil in the bobbin, applique around each shape, changing colours as you go.
Design Feature – Use an assortment of satin, blanket, motif or decorative stitch for appliqueing on each Bird to add interest and texture. Contrasting and matching threads will also add variety.
