Marvellous Avengers

This Marvellous Avengers Quilt will be popular in any household, because who doesn’t want a Superhero Quilt to cuddle under?

Materials:

      1. GO! Big Fabric Cutter Starter Set
      2. AQ55462 GO! Big Circle – 4”, 6”, 7”, 8”
      3. AQ55012 GO! Circles – 2”, 3”, 5”
      4. AQ55028 GO! Stars -2”, 3”, 4”
      5. AQ55777 GO! Qube Mix And Match 12”
        • Shape 2 Square - 3 ½”
        • Shape 4 Quarter Square Triangle – 6” Finished
        • Shape 5 Half Square Triangle - 3” Finished
          (Alternatively you can use AQ55456 GO! Flying Geese 3 ½” x 6 ½” and AQ55006 GO! Square 3 ½”)
      6. AQ55017 GO! Strip Cutter 2 ½”
      7. GO! Cutting mats
        • AQ55111 10” x10”
        • AQ55113 10” x 24”
      8. 16 x 9 ½” squares of Marvel™ comic fabric. It can be the same print or different
      9. 2m of black fabric
      10. 70cm of red fabric
      11. 40cm of blue fabric
      12. 25cm of white fabric
      13. 90cm of fusible webbing
      14. 60cm of tearaway stabiliser
      15. 2m x 1.5m of backing fabric
      16. 2m x 1.5m of wadding
      17. Embroidery threads to match fabric and bobbinfil
      18. General quilting and sewing tools and equipment

Cutting Instructions:

      1. From black fabric:
        • Cut 2, 10” x width of fabric (WOF). Crosscut into 7 x 10” squares for shield appliques.
        • Using Shape 2 GO! Square 3 ½”. Cut 4, 4” x WOF strips. Fanfold into 4” widths and cut into 36 squares.
        • Using Shape 5 GO! Half Square – 3” Finished Triangle. Cut 4, 5” x WOF strip. Fanfold into 4” widths and cut 72 half square triangles, (HST).
        • Using AQ55017, cut 1, 14 x WOF. Crosscut into 5 x 2 ½” strips.
      2. From red fabric:
        • Using Shape 4 GO! Quarter Square Triangle – 6” Finished. Cut 1, 8” x WOF strip. Fanfold into 8” widths and cut 18 quarter square triangles (QST).
        • Using AQ55462 GO! Big Circles – 8”, 7”, 6”, 4”. Cut 2, 6 ½” WOF. Iron fusible web onto the back of the fabric and cut 7 x 6” circles.
        • Using AQ55456 GO! Big Circles – 8”, 7”, 6”, 4. Cut 1, 4 ½” WOF. Iron fusible web onto the back of the fabric and cut 7 x 4” circles.
      3. From blue fabric:
        • Using Shape 4 GO! Quarter Square Triangle – 6” Finished. Cut 1, 8” WOF strip. Fanfold into 8” widths and cut 18 QST.
        • Using AQ55012 Circles – 2”, 3”, 5”. Cut 1, 3 ½” WOF. Iron fusible web onto the back of the fabric and cut 7 x 3” circles.
      4. From white fabric:
        • Using AQ55456 GO! Big Circles – 8”, 7”, 6”, 4”. Cut 1, 5 ½” WOF. Iron fusible web onto the back of the fabric and cut 7 x 5” circles.
        • Using AQ55028 GO! Stars – 2”, 3”, 5” . Cut 1, 3” x WOF. Iron fusible web onto the back of the fabric and cut 7 x 2” stars.

Sewing Instructions:

Flying Geese Blocks

        1. Using ¼” seam allowance, sew 1 x black HST to 1 x red QST as shown right.

        1. Take a second black HST and sew to the second side as shown.
        2. Make a total of 18 red flying geese.
        3. Using the 3 ½” squares, sew 9 onto the right side of the block, and 9 onto the left side of the block as shown below.

        1. Take three of these segments and join together to make the 2 different blocks as illustrated below.

        1. Repeat steps 1 – 5, using the blue fabric. Make 6 x blue flying geese blocks.

Sheild Blocks

        1. Fold the black 10” block in quarters and iron to find centre point.
        2. Finger press the 6” circle into quarters to find the centre point. Match to centre point of black square and press lightly in place. (Pressing to hard will remove your pressing marks).
        3. Repeat process with the 5” white circle and press lightly in place.
        4. Repeat process with the 4” red circle and press lightly in place.
        5. Repeat process with the 3” blue circle and press lightly in place.
        6. Centre the white star in middle of blue circle create to the below block.

        1. Thread your machine with embroidery thread on the top bobbinfil in bobbin. Select an applique stitch – satin, blanket or decorative stitch for appliques. Place tearaway underneath and stitch the outside edges in corresponding colours.

        1. When all colours are stitched, press and trim blocks to 9 ½”, making sure the shields are centred.

Quilt Assembly

        1. Layout blocks as illustrated in the picture below.

        1. Using ¼” seam, sew the block together in rows. Press seams in opposite directions for each row.
        2. Sew the rows together, matching seams. Press.

Quilting and Finishing

        1. Layer wadding between quilt top and backing.
        2. Pin or baste layers together.
        3. Machine quilt as desired.
        4. Add binding, mitring corners.
