Use your scraps to make these pretty applique journal covers. They are so quick and easy to make – great as gifts for your friends and family, or just to keep for yourself!
Materials:
To make the largest journal cover pictured, A5- AccuQuilt GO! Big or GO! Fabric Cutter
- AQ55007 GO! Round Flower
- A5 notebook or journal
- Assorted scraps for applique Half a meter background fabric
- Batting scraps
- Fusible Web
- Sewing Machine
- Matching Sewing Thread
- General Sewing Tools
Cutting Instructions:
- From background fabric cut (2) 9 ½” x 18” rectangles
- From batting cut (1) 9 ½” x 18” rectangle
- Apply fusible web to the wrong side of your selected fabric scraps, and use AQ55007 to cut out:
- (1) large flower, (1) inside flower, (1) each large and small circle, and (2) leaves
Sewwing Instructions:
All seams are ¼” unless otherwise specified.- Take one of the 9 ½” x 18” rectangles and wrap it around your journal, with flaps inside the journal:
- Arrange the applique pieces on the front. When happy with the placement, take out the journal, then press them to the fabric:
- Using your favourite method of applique, sew the shape to the cover fabric.
- Take the other 9 ½” x 18” rectangle and place it right sides together with the applique rectangle. Place them on the batting.
- Sew around all three layers, leaving a gap of about 4” for turning.
- Snip the corners and turn. Press.
- Centre the journal inside the cover and fold the flaps inside again. Finger press, then take the journal out and pin the flaps to the cover.
- Top stitch 1/8” around the whole cover, securing the flaps in place and closing the turning gap:
- Press again and put your journal in!
- Height of notebook + 1”
- Width of notebook + 5”
